The Week That Was-August 13th

Here are the updated standings:

Toronto FC
Seattle 2 Toronto 1, two defensive errors, one of which was an own goal and Toronto loses another home game when they need to be picking up all home points possible to have any chance of reaching the playoffs.  I know it’s irrationally optimistic but I will continue to hold the belief of 2013 playoffs for Toronto FC until they are mathematically eliminated.  Blind optimism is the only way to stay sane as a TFC supporter.    On the bright side Osorio notched another goal to take his total to 5, in his incredible rookie season.  But to have any chance, however so small, Toronto needs to bring in these supposed Designated Player level signings in the next few days to add more attacking options.  One of the targets, Max Urruti is supposedly on his way to Toronto right now and will soon be announced.  The chance is slim, but Toronto will have to get 10 out of 15 points over the next five games to keep my playoff hopes alive, while it seems the club could already be resigned to focusing on next year.  Hopefully with the incoming players the team will be revived and make a run for it.

Movers of the Week
The Western Conference experienced the same thing as the Eastern Conference last week, with Seattle moving up into the playoff spots each team got 6 points closer to clinching.  In addition to this 6 points Vancouver and Salt Lake both gained an additional 3 points with both teams winning.  San Jose was the biggest loser this week getting 4 points closer to elimination with a loss and the 5th place points moving up 1.  In the East, Kansas City and Philadelphia both got 3 points closer to clinching a playoff spot, while New England, Toronto, and DC all dropped 3 points closer to being eliminated, each with a loss this weekend.  Finally, after this week, Chivas USA joined DC United in dropping below 20 points to elimination with 18 and 14 points until elimination, respectively.
